The Acumatica Summit wrapped up its annual event in San Diego, California which revealed Acumatica’s Commerce Edition and DocuSign integration; among other announcements. The fastest growing Cloud ERP Company reported an 83 percent revenue growth, and Acumatica CEO Jon Roskill shared where the Company sees potential with emerging technologies. The Amazon Echo made its first Acumatica Summit debut on stage. The hands-free, voice-controlled device uses the Alexa Voice Service that can play music, provide information, news and more. Alexa shared her thoughts on who’s the fastest growing cloud ERP when asked. “Glad you asked,” said Alexa, “It is Acumatica Cloud ERP.”
Though the demonstration on stage was only an experiment of a distribution inventory scenario, it puts into perspective to where Acumatica is exploring technology possibilities. When asked, Alexa was able to provide real-time inventory of available hardware in stock and even provided the option to place an order. How does she do this?
How does Alexa work with Acumatica?
Amazon Echo has a small computer inside which allows Acumatica to integrate its enterprise cloud technology. The device works by recognizing the name Alexa: when you say the word “Alexa”, it recognizes the word (Amazon calls this the wake word) and it’s ready to receive your following command. After you are finished speaking, it sends the received recording over the internet to Amazon.
Roskill said that he sees voice control becoming a common element in the enterprise industry.
“It’s something we will continue to experiment with,” Roskill said. “We’ll watch it as it continues to mature.”
Though all business information isn’t best shared across open conversations, Alexa has automatic speech recognition (ASR) feature that recognizes voices. Roskill said “From a business scenario, who can get at what information is usually set up in a role-based manner. Having voice authentication connected to role would be a very good thing for us.”
The next Acumatica Summit will be held in Nashville. They had recently announced their new vertical editions; Commerce, an e-commerce ERP solution with integrated accounting and Field Service, a management resource service that works with CRM, sales, inventory and more.
